SITUATION
A company in the health insurance sector wanted to implement a corporate-wide strategy to “go green,” but the sheer number of its sites posed a challenge. The company did not have a handle on its overall energy usage; it lacked visibility into each site’s data and was unaware of what it was spending on energy. Under these circumstances, the company was not in a position to implement an energy procurement plan, let alone a sustainability plan. Summit Energy launched a thorough and systematic process to set the company on the right path to achieve its objectives.
LEADERSHIP
Summit’s first strategy for the company involved implementing a utility bill management program, which ensured that energy usage and spend data would be captured efficiently and accurately. Once data was flowing smoothly into a centralized database, Summit analyzed usage patterns and spend levels to identify key issues, setting the stage for sustainability initiatives.
RESULTS
Summit used the data to build a Sustainability Roadmap, which detailed a sustainability plan for the company. Findings from the Roadmap were shared with the board of directors, employees, shareholders and investors as part of a corporate-wide strategy to establish more environmentally-friendly energy consumption practices.
